Today we are spotlighting Nishita Patel and her adventure to Thailand and Peru this summer!
Nishita had the privilege of traveling to Thailand to volunteer for Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation for three weeks. GTAEF is an organization that rescues elephants from all around Thailand, taking them off the streets and out of logging camps to provide them with a better and healthier life.
GTAEF works solely on donations from Anantara hotel guests (the resort that GTAEF is mutually affiliated with) to sustain the elephants. So far they have rescued 26 adult elephants and 10 baby elephants.
In the three weeks that Nishita was there, she also got to travel to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Bangkok. While working at the elephant camp, she got to shadow the on-site veterinarian and take the elephants on daily treks through the jungle.
Because of this opportunity, she got hands on experience with one of the most beautiful and brilliant animals she has ever come across and she would do it over again a hundred times if she could.
Nishita was also able to visit Peru earlier this summer with her family. She got to see one of the wonders of the world, Machu Picchu. Seeing Machu Picchu has always been a dream of Nishitia’s dad and he finally got to take the historical Hiram Bingham train to the ancient Incan ruins this summer. While in Peru Nishita and her family also traveled to Cusco, Lima, and Urubamba.
Nishita had a summer full of amazing opportunities as well as amazing memories that will last a lifetime!
Until our next spotlight,
