Fall 2014 Recruitment Welcome!

Hello Ladies!

There are not enough words to describe how excited I am to be the Texas Sweethearts Fall 2014 Recruitment Chair. Joining this organization has been the biggest highlight of my college journey, and I hope to share the love I have for Texas Sweethearts with y’all.

I found my place at The University of Texas at Austin the spring semester of my freshman year. I had a tough first semester driving five hours back to my East Texas hometown every chance I got. That was until I decided to be spontaneous and apply to be a Texas Sweetheart. My roommate at the time and a few of my friends were really interested in trying out so, I thought why not give it a try? The more events I attended, the more I knew Sweethearts was what I wanted, and where I belonged. I’ll never forget the day I found out I was a Spring ’12 Sweetie. There was so much joy and happiness in knowing my life was about to change in the best way possible and as they say, “the rest is history.”

Several recruits each semester come up to me and ask what my favorite thing is about being a Texas Sweetheart. Quite simply, it’s the process of recruitment. I’ve attended every single info session and smoker since I’ve been in Sweethearts, bringing in a grand total of 15 info sessions and 15 smokers. I experience a feeling of pride and admiration when I see so many girls interested in joining an organization that I hold so near and dear to my heart. Everything gets put back into perspective for me with each recruitment that takes place. It’s a reminder of how blessed I am to be able to call myself a Texas Sweetheart. In this organization I’ve received so much, but I’ve also given back to the Austin community, cheered on our Texas Longhorns in sporting events, and ultimately found the sisters I’ve never had along with my best friends who I couldn’t imagine not having a part of my life now.

With all that being said, I invite everyone of you out there who are looking for a place to call home in a community as big as The University of Texas, to give Texas Sweethearts a try. Life is all about taking chances. I took a chance two years ago, and now I am forever grateful. The recruitment process can be intimidating, but know at one point all the active members had to go through the same process as well. I also highly encourage those who have tried out before to return once again. It’s a new semester, which brings in new girls. Our selection process is dependent on finding a class that will fit well amongst each other. We have several actives who have tried out multiple times before they were found a perfect sweetie class to be apart of. As I like to say, the best things usually take time.

I look forward to getting to meet y’all at our summer recruiting events as well as our recruiting events in the fall!
