It’s that time again- Texas Sweetheart Spotlights are back! For us, this is a time to highlight a few of our active members and share the opportunities they’ve seized throughout the past school year and summer. We’re so excited to share how those opportunities have changed them and how they’ve grown as women. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
Today we are spotlighting a member that never fails to go above and beyond for Sweethearts. She’s a spring ’12 Sweetie, who spends her time at UT studying Radio Television and Film and Journalism. She’s smart, talented and definitely loves to travel. We feel extremely honored to have this fabulous lady, Briana Denham, in our organization!
Briana spent her spring semester studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain. While there she studied at Pablo de Olavide University and stayed with a host family. While this was difficult at first, despite her eight plus years of Spanish education, with time and intensive studying, she became more comfortable with the language.
Studying abroad allowed Briana to travel to many different places throughout Spain, including Barcelona, Madrid, Granada, Cadiz and Cordoba. There she gained an even deeper appreciation for the culture and country itself. In addition to this, she was also able to travel to several different places throughout Europe. She traveled to Italy to see Rome, Portugal to experience both Lisbon and Lagos, France to visit Paris, Scotland to inevitably fall in love with Edinburg, England to witness London and finally Ireland, to spend time with family and meet some Irish relatives.
Briana is now back in Texas, working at the San Antonio Current as an editorial intern. While she is happy to be back with friends and family, she misses the people and second family she left in Sevilla. Sevilla taught her to appreciate the small things in life, to live in the present, and to never turn down free Sangria when given the chance. She’s excited to take everything she learned while abroad, and apply it to her senior year as a Sweetheart and Longhorn.
While Briana discusses returning to Sevilla to reconnect with her host family and the country she learned to love so well, we’re thrilled to have her back in Texas for now. Her experience has shaped her and given her a new outlook on life. We couldn’t be prouder to have women like her in our organization that continually push us to grow and live out UT’s challenge, “What starts here changes the world.”
Until our next spotlight,
