My name is Cassidy Wilson, and it is such an honor to introduce myself as the Fall 2016 President of Texas Sweethearts.
Texas was never in the plans for me. I have lived my entire life in Southern California. I received a volleyball scholarship out of high school to play at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) in sunny San Diego, California. During the spring semester of my freshman year I decided that PLNU was not the school of my dreams. I gave up the life of being a college athlete and stepped into a new unknown life without volleyball. It was then that a friend of mine recommended I should look into transferring to University of Texas.
The 1,152 miles and 51,000 students was intimidating but as I began to learn more about the amazing city, huge state pride, and fun football games I was hooked. In Spring 2015 I packed up my life in California and transferred to UT. As a girl raised on dirt In wine country, moving to the city was petrifying. On top of all that it was already the second semester of the school year, everyone already had their groups of friends, sororities weren’t recruiting, and I had no idea what a spirit groups was.
Luckily a girl in one of my classes recommended I attend a Texas Sweethearts smoker. Words cannot describe how thankful I am that I did. At every recruitment event I continued to meet such genuine girls that were extremely passionate about their organization. Since then, Texas Sweethearts has been my home away from home and as cliché as that sounds I can’t put it into any better words. I was on volleyball teams practically my entire life and after joining Sweethearts I felt like I got my team back. I was blessed to be in the best sweetie class ever (shout out to Spring ‘15) with girls that continually encouraged each other to do their best in every aspect of life.
To those of you looking for a home at the HUGE University of Texas, looking for friends to lose your voice at football games with, looking for sisters to have movie nights with, looking for a way to give back to your community, or looking for sisters to support you and push you to be the very best version of your self- I can assure you Texas Sweethearts can give that to you just as it has done for me and hundreds of other girls.
Texas Sweethearts has given me best friends, future bridesmaids, and lifelong sisters. I am so beyond blessed to serve as this semesters president and have the opportunity to give back to the organization that has given me so much.
To all prospective members, I am extremely excited to begin recruitment and meet all of you. I know the entire active body, officer board, and myself cannot wait to share our love for this organization with you and welcome a beautiful new class of Sweetheart sisters this fall.
