Service

The Texas Sweethearts strive to promote service on the UT Austin campus and the greater Austin community. Actives are required to complete a designated amount of service hours per semester, but most members go above and beyond their requirements. Members serve the community on their own and with the organization. In addition to our own service projects, we enjoy teaming up other organizations to support their philanthropies as well.

If you are interested in recruiting Texas Sweethearts for a community event, please contact our Service Chairs.

Random Acts of Kindness

In Spring of 2013, the Texas Sweethearts began a Random Acts of Kindness initiative at the University of Texas at Austin. Starting off with 500 red stickers branded with a navy heart and the slogan, “This Random Act of Kindness was brought to you by Texas Sweethearts,” active members of the organization took the campus by storm, performing little acts of kindness for strangers and leaving no form of evidence except for a sticker. From leaving encouraging notes around campus, to paying for a few extra hours on a stranger’s parking meter, the Texas Sweethearts are working to uplift the Austin community and inspire others to practice kindness. Check out our Instagram to see the things the Texas Sweethearts have been doing around the area and don’t forget to always pay it forward.

Austin Child Guidance Center

Texas Sweethearts held the 10th Annual Dream Date event in the Fall of 2015 in honor of our official philanthropy Austin Child Guidance Center. Austin Child Guidance Center strives to improve the mental health of children in central Texas through early intervention, diagnosis and treatment to help them develop the skills to face life’s challenges. Our active body volunteers weekly at the center and works hands on with the children. With help from our community, we were able to raise over $12,000 for our philanthropy.

B.I.G. Love Cancer Care

In the Fall of 2015, Texas Sweethearts adopted B.I.G Love Cancer Care as our second philanthropy. Our fundraising efforts will now be split between both amazing causes, and our members have begun to put together care packages and volunteer at various events to help children facing cancer and their families.

Other activities include:

    • Hosting our annual Dream Date philanthropy auction every fall semester
    • Serving breakfast to the homeless community at Feed My People
    • Assisting with Best Buddies, Texas THON, and more service initiatives
    • Participating in Texas Wranglers City Wide Hold-Up
    • Forming a Relay for Life team every year
    • Volunteering at Explore UT, Longhorn Halloween, and Forty Acres Fest
